Il barbiere di Siviglia

(Music by Gioachino Rossini)

Il barbiere di Siviglia

Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo

Première October 7th, 2024

Based on the work of the brilliant Beaumarchais, its dynamic and crazy plot contains something much more interesting than what it shows in the foreground. The work unfolds on a succession of events that border on the surreal, contrasting two generations in their desires, ambitions and ways of seeing the world; but Rossini places the ópera beyond the margin of social criticism, to lean in favor of the comedy of the characters, taking this to its maximum expression.

Rossini shows his characters as they are, with their miseries (many) and their successes (elementary), putting into practice like no one else the most powerful dialectical resource to explain the reality of things: irony. An irony that is not only in the text but above all in the music, in the melodies and in the color of the apparently simple instrumental combinations.
