This entertaining opera is a true musical treasure premiered in 1909 at the Königliches Hof- und Nationaltheater. It tells the story of a woman, Susanna, who, like all those women at late nineteenth and early twentieth century was forbidden to do things as simply as smoking , a pleasure that only mens could access.

Susanna with a modern and defiant gesture, smoke, and does it secretly from her husband. She loves to smoke and finds in those moments a great delight and an intimate space of freedom.

This will be the starting point of a great misunderstanding and hilarious confusion that is generated between she and her husband Gil, since not being able to imagine that his wife smokes. Gil attribute the smell of tobacco to a supposed lover who visits his wife.
