The little match girl
(H.C. Andersen)
Teatro Real - Madrid (Spain)
Teatro Arriaga - Bilbao (Spain)
In many ways, The Little Matchgirl is a modern story. Poverty continues to prevent children in half the world from enjoying their childhood, many of them forced to work without rest. The adaptation of the story for this production focuses on some of its most positive values- our will to overcome difficulties, our use of fantasy to invent other worlds, and travel as an essential component of our inner transformation.
Although Hans Christian Andersen’s familiar tale is quite sad, the underlying idea of this production was to highlight the power of love, hope and above all, the beauty embodied in the character of the little match seller who uses her imagination to free herself from the shackles of a dark, oppressive reality.
